The Nationals Weekend
Posted March 21, 2011
I think for me and any other cyclist that can't get out as much as they like to, entering a sportive is a good goal to set yourself. I wish I was already fully comfortable going out and doing a 63 mile hilly ride but if truth be told - I'm not!
The sportive I have entered is the middle distance Northern Rock Cyclone on June 25th, the day before the national road race champs. Now it's gonna be a cracker of a weekend because there is Leazes crit in Newcastle city centre on Friday night, the sportive on Saturday and the road race on Sunday. Everyone better get booking their hotels....
Back to sportive training, like I said before; a lot of cyclists like myself find it hard to get out on the bike as much as they would like to. I made an amazing discovery on this front a few months ago called "suffer fest". We all know how boring turbo training is, it's hard to motivate yourself to do it for any more than half an hour. Suffer fest have made a range of training videos with great music, footage from big races and specific workout plans from hard interval sessions to time trials and hill climbing. Believe me, it's called SUFFER fest for a reason! Never before have I pushed myself on a bike like I have when I'm doing a suffer fest workout. You've got to be ready to work hard and sweat a lot when you embark on one. Any cyclists that are pushed for training time should check out their website.
Now with a little help from my other female cycling friends we have decided that the nationals weekend is going to be the perfect opportunity to plug the save a cyclist campaign big time. For starters, anybody that has a t-shirt definitely needs to wear it that weekend. We're taking inspiration from the above photograph and plastering ourselves with #saveacyclist logos. You won't miss us that's for sure. Now’s the perfect time to order a t-shirt if you haven't already got one!
