Just thought I’d share some of my favourite cycling books and movies with you. There are loads out there so feel free to chip in with your own favourites…
Cycling DVDs
One of my favourite movies is The Flying Scotsman. Not because it’s a movie about cycling but because it’s a really interesting movie. It’s about Graeme Obree, one of the greatest cyclists of all time. He was a scotsman who mostly fuelled himself with marmalade sandwiches and cornflakes. He decided to take on the hour challenge, but he built his own bicycle, mostly out of bits of old washing machine parts! A great movie, it is sad in places as he was a bit of a manic depressive. But if you don’t know who he is, you need to watch this movie!
Cycling Books
French Revolutions. Please, please… please – read this book. I defy you not to laugh out loud all the way through. It is the funniest book I have ever read. It’s written by Tim Moore. It’s an account of his attempt to cycle the Tour de France route one year. It’s simply hilarious and very inspiring. If you’ve got a challenge coming up that you need motivation for – read this.
I took it on holiday one year but read it all on the plane on the way over!
The Hour. This is another humorous book. It is very funny but not quite as funny as French Revolutions. It’s an account of a guy who is an extremely good Time Triallist and decides to take on the hour record. Well worth a read.
Boy Racer. Mark Cavendish is Britain's hottest new sprinter. This is an excellent read, Cavendish describes life as a pro rider and boy he really tells it how it is!
I really hope you enjoy these guys. If you have any favourites please let me know – sharing is caring :)
Happy Cycling.
